River System of Assam

The river system of Assam is mainly dominated by the Brahmaputra and Barak River. The Brahmaputra river flows through the state of Assam from its origin in Tibet and is joined by numerous tributaries on its north and south banks. The Barak river located in the southern part of Assam originated in the hills of Manipur, flows through Manipur, Mizoram and Assam before entering Bangladesh.

Brahmaputra River System

The Brahmaputra river system is the largest river system in the Northeast India. It originated in the Himalayas near Mansarovar Lake in Tibet and flows through Tibet, India (Arunachal Pradesh & Assam) and Bangladesh, and eventually joins the Bay of Bengal. The Brahmaputra river also known as Luit in Assam, Siang/Dihang in Arunachal Pradesh, Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet and Jamuna in Bangladesh. It is the 15th longest river in the world and 9th largest river by discharge.
